The temperature-regulating fiber mainly refers to the fiber which adopts the phase change temperature-regulating function material, and is a high-tech product developed by combining the phase change energy storage material technology and the fiber manufacturing technology.

When the temperature of the ambient temperature rises in the textile containing the phase change material, the phase change material absorbs heat, changes from solid to liquid, and lowers the surface temperature. On the contrary, when the ambient temperature is lowered, the phase change material releases heat from the liquid to the solid, which reduces the heat released by the human body to the surrounding body, so as to maintain the normal body temperature of the human body and provide a comfortable "in-situ microclimate" environment for the human body. The human body is always in a comfortable state. This kind of fiber material can actively and intelligently control the surrounding temperature, so it is called smart thermostat fiber. Its main manufacturing processes include coating finishing, composite spinning and microcapsule spinning. Among them, the fiber produced by the microcapsule spinning process has the best appearance and feel, and is most concerned with ordinary fibers.

Temperature control fiber application field

The intelligent temperature-regulating fiber can be purely spun, or blended with cotton, wool, silk, hemp and other fibers, and can be woven or knitted. It is widely used in outdoor clothing, underwear, sweaters, shirts, hats, gloves and bedding, and has good effects. Its clothing has become very popular in the United States, Europe, and Japan. Especially popular among outdoor athletes and elderly and infants who are sensitive to temperature changes. At present, the most mature countries that use phase change materials as the main temperature regulating function are the United States and Switzerland. The thermostat fibers produced by them are mainly microcapsule spinning technology; while the Japanese Daiwa Chemical Industry develops microcapsules. Slurry coating technology is known.

Market development of thermostat fiber

China's temperature-regulating fiber is still in the stage of research and development and trial production, and the product market is still not mature. Mainly: Beijing Xuelian Cashmere Co., Ltd. and Shanxi Hengtian New Fiber Technology Development Co., Ltd. jointly developed the smart milk protein thermostat fiber in March 2007, which has excellent pressure resistance and high temperature resistance. Due to the nutrient material containing natural milk protein, it has excellent skin-friendly properties and has created sufficient conditions for downstream customers to develop and develop high-grade new functional fabrics. This fiber is blended with wool, camel hair, cotton and other fibers in a proportion of 40%, and finally a fabric with good hand feeling and temperature control function is obtained. In addition, Beijing Xuelian Cashmere Co., Ltd. also launched a dual-track composite weaving garment for mulberry silk intelligent temperature-regulating fiber.

In October 2003, Baoding Xiongya Textile Group produced space phase change thermostat fiber wool under the guidance of American “Ambers” technicians. It is a high-tech phase change thermostat fiber developed by the US Space Agency for spacesuits. It is made of imported high-grade Loco fleece. This kind of temperature-regulating fiber has been tested and approved by the Japan Textile Inspection Association, China Cotton Textile Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, and Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau. The product also has long-term sterilization, disinfection and other effects.

The thermoregulated fiber developed by Tianjin University of Technology is an intelligent fiber with thermal energy absorption, storage and release function by adding about 20% by weight of phase change material to the polymer fiber. Fabrics made from this fiber have a temperature-regulating function that significantly improves the comfort of taking. The project overcomes the problems of heat resistance improvement and scale synthesis of phase change materials. The automatic temperature regulating fiber produced has remarkable temperature regulation function, and the comprehensive heat preservation performance is superior to that of comparative wool flakes. The intelligent temperature-regulating fiber is used as the main raw material, and a three-dimensional four-hole crimped polyester fiber and a small amount of fine-denier fiber are combined to develop a wool-like lining, which has better comprehensive heat insulation performance than wool flakes; compared with wool flakes, The temperature difference between temperature rise and temperature drop is above 3.7 °C.

Jinhua Xinjia Home Textile Co., Ltd. developed a self-regulating core in September 2007. The product name is “Tianfu Cotton” and has applied for national invention patent. It mainly uses physical methods to change the spatial structure of cotton fibers to improve the properties of elasticity, strength and shrinkage. At room temperature, "Tianfu cotton" is in a dormant state. After the body temperature passes, the volume of Tianfu cotton begins to expand, the volume between the fibers increases, the gas permeability increases, and excess moisture and heat are discharged to achieve the effect of temperature regulation.

Our hospital and Hebei Jiyu Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd. jointly developed the “smart temperature-adjusting viscose fiber” and passed the scientific and technological achievements appraisal organized by the National Textile Industry Association. This technology is the first in China and reaches the domestic advanced level. At the same time, the quality inspection report shows that the physical performance indicators have reached the first grade of viscose fiber. Recently, it was recommended by the China Textile Industry Association as the “Eleventh Five-Year” textile industry promotion technology. At present, some products such as quilts, towel quilts, T-shirts, and temperature-regulating non-woven fabrics have been trial-produced.

Temperature-regulating fiber has become a research hotspot of textile functional products at home and abroad. In Europe and America, there has been a mature market for temperature-regulating textile products and has been trusted and accepted by consumers. In China, the research and application of thermostat fiber is still in its infancy, and there are no mature products on the market. However, we believe that because the temperature-regulating fiber has the function of heat storage and temperature regulation, and has excellent blendability with other various fibers, and the application range is extremely broad, it will have a broad market development space. In addition, the temperature-regulating fiber has yet to be further solved to reduce costs and improve the temperature adjustment effect, so as to be more conducive to market acceptance.
